Abstract

583,396. Gas compressors. ANDREWS, T. D. H. Sept. 13, 1944, No. 17456. [Class 8 (i)] In a gas compressor of the type comprising a cylinder block 4 rotating about a stationary valve member 6 so as to open the cylinder bores sequentially to suction and delivery ports 10, 11 and reciprocating pistons 8 which compress the gas before discharge, the pistons are freely mounted in the bores to move outwardly by centrifugal force and inwardly by an eccentric cylinder 9 surrounding the block. The ports are arcuate slots separated by an unported portion of the valve of such length as to result in a volume ratio of not less than 3 to 1 which in adiabatic compression would give the desired ratio of suction and delivery pressure. An oil filter and drain plug is provided and the oil is maintained at the level indicated so that: the pistons dip into it about their lowest point.
