Abstract

247,163. Krupp Germaniawerft Akt.- Ges., F. Feb. 7, 1925, [Convention date]. Four - stroke-cycle engines; pumps, actuating by separate motors; cylinders, ports and pipes of.- In engines wherein an exhaust turbine drives an air compressor to supercharge the cylinder, the same terminal ports a<1> are used to admit the supercharging air as serve for the exhaust to the turbine. The ports communicate with a flat chamber G through which passes a small ported cylinder H in which a slide valve J reciprocates. A second set of cylinder ports a<2> lead to the exhaust pipe and are connected with the main ports by a recess f<1> in the piston, when the latter is at top dead centre. Inlet and exhaust ripes L, K communicate with the cylinder H. The valve J is driven from the half speed shaft Q through linkage as shown, the shaft being displaced to one side of the cross-head N. The usual inlet and exhaust valves C, D are provided in the cylinder head. The arrangement of shaft Q and linkage as shown drives the valve J so that the ports a<1> are alternately connected to the exhaust and inlet pipes and times the valve so that the ports in the cylinder H are closed when the piston is at the end of the compression stroke, thereby preventing flow of exhaust from the ports a<2> through recess f<1> and ports a<1> into the cylinder. At the end of the exhaust stroke the ports in the valve cylinder are slightly open to allow air to scavenge the chamber G driving the products through the ports a', recess f<1> and ports a<2>.
