Regulating; valves.- In a two-stroke-cycle engine to maintain the correct proportion between the fuel and air at all loads, air release ports I, which are more or less uncovered by a controlling valve k, are located, as shown in Fig. 2, so as to register with a port h in the gudgeon H when the piston approaches the end of its compression stroke. The gudgeon is oscillated by the piston-rod and its port h registers at intervals with passages F in the piston. The front end of the piston may compress the working charge, and, in the construction shown in Fig. 2, the piston compresses air in the crank case.
