258,862. Boehm-Vergasser Ges. Sept. 22, 1925, [Convention date]. Combined liquid and air pumps; valveless pumps. -In a fuel pump for internalcombustion engines in which fuel and air are drawn in during the suction stroke of the pump piston, and are forced after compression into the piston, the fuel and air enter the pump barrel a through ports g, h, when the piston b is at the end of its suction stroke, and are compressed during the upstroke and delivered through a passage c in the piston to a port e and pipe f leading to the engine. Any liquid particles of the fuel are thrown into a recess k at the end of the cylinder as the piston decelerates, and is picked up and vaporized by the compressed air as it flows round the edge of the end m of the passage c. The piston may have a labyrinth passage i, j between the passage c and port e in which liquid particles of fuel are thrown to the upper portion, and picked up and vaporized by the passing air. The fuel may enter by a port n and port e into the labyrinth, and be picked up by the air coming from the passage c.
