Abstract
246,477. Boehm - Vergaser Ges., (Assignees of Boehm, R.). Jan. 21, 1925, [Convention date]. Eccentric-actuated pumps; valveless pumps; pipes.-A pump for delivering atomized fuel and air to an engine comprises a cylinder 1 provided with inlet ports 5, 6 for fuel and air respectively adapted to register with a, passage 3 in a piston 2 at the end of the suction stroke so that fuel remains in the passage 3 while air passes into the cylinder through a passage 4. During the compression stroke, the air is compressed, and at the end of the stroke the passage 3 registers with the delivery port 7 in the cylinder, and the compressed air carries the fuel in an atomized state into the engine cylinder. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the air passage in the piston is separate from the fuel passage 3 and is connected thereto at the end of the delivery stroke by a channel 15 in the cylinder wall. During the suction stroke they are temporarily connected by another channel 17 to create a vacuum in the passage 3, and at the end of the suction stroke they register with separate inlet ports. The fuel inlet port may be controlled by a needle valve 18.
