638,157. Fuel injection pumps. MULAZZANI. C. April 11, 1947, Nos. 9679 and 9680. Convention dates, Feb. 26, 1946, and Sept. 24, 1946. [Class 102(i)] In a fuel injection pump in which separate passages are provided for the admission of fuel to the working chamber 2 of the pump and for the expulsion of excess fuel therefrom before injection commences the said passages leading to different regions of the fuel tank or to different fuel tanks through pipes 14, 20, respectively so as to avoid turbulence of the incoming fuel, the passage 16 for the expulsion of fuel leads from an orifice 15 adjacent the cylinder head to an orifice 17 in the cylinder wall which co-operates with the controlling edge 10 of a recess 9 in the pump plunger 6, the recess being in permanent communication through passage 11, annular groove 8, duct 18 and annular groove 19 with the pipe 20, and the suction passage terminates in at least one opening 12 in the cylinder wall remote from the head and is adapted to communicate with the recess 9 at both ends of the plunger stroke. A duct 21 is provided for equalizing the side thrust on the plunger.
