Abstract

328,110. Hobson, Ltd., M. M., and Davey, B. A. April 12, 1929. Spray carburettors.-Extra fuel is supplied to an auxiliary nozzle 2 when an engine is accelerating and also at full throttle opening. A pump 8, which is connected to the throttle valve, delivers the fuel for accelerating whilst the supply at full throttle opening is drawn by the engine suction from a chamber 16 which communicates with a delivery pipe 4 when a port 27 is uncovered by the pump piston 10 at the end of its downstroke. The pump is of double-headed piston type, the space 16 between the heads 10, 11 communicating with a float chamber through a duct 17. The fuel passes through ports 15 and a small non- return valve 12 to the pump chamber 9 whence it is forced, during opening movements of the throttle, to the nozzle 2 through a non-return valve 6. During normal throttle openings, a duct 19 establishes communication between the top of the float chamber, and the pump chamber is covered when the port 27 is uncovered.
