Cylinders receiving liquid fuel.-In a Diesel engine with a main valve-controlled exhaust outlet f and an auxiliary terminal exhaust port g, air is supplied normally by a compressor i through the valve-controlled port h. The air enters during the end of the exhaust stroke while the main exhaust valve is open, during the suction stroke, and during the compression stroke until the auxiliary port g is closed by the piston; by this means exhaust is not drawn back into the cylinder on the suction stroke. An additional atmospheric air inlet c is provided for use if the compressor is not working.
