Abstract
290,867. Dunkerley, M. M., and Brotherhood, Ltd., P. Aug. 11, 1927. Starting. - In high-compression heavy-oil engines, such as Diesel .engines, in which the main inlet valve c is arranged between the normal compression space and a supplementary space g and is rendered inoperative when starting, a change-over valve i connects the cylinder directly to the atmosphere for normal running and to a carburettor C for starting. As shown, the rotatable valve i is provided with a spring- loaded inlet valve n, and is turned by means of a handle m, connected by a link r, arms s, u on a shaft t, and a rod w to a sliding wedge x for holding open the inlet valve c at starting. The handle m may also switch on a sparking-plug p for starting and may cut off the liquid fuel supply.
