Abstract
534,570. Alloys ; annealing. ABBEY, A. (Consolidated Mining & Smelting Co., of Canada, Ltd.). July 5, 1939, No. 19603. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, July 29, 1940]. Drawings to Specification. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] Hardenable alloys having stainless properties and applicable for making cutlery, tools, dies, turbine blades, cooking utensils, machine parts, car and railway equipment, engine valves, electrodes, electric heating elements, and other articles, consist of 33-59 per cent. of iron and 25-66 per cent. of manganese of at least 99.5 per cent impurity, which may be electrolytic manganese, with or without up to 18 per cent. of chromium, and with or without small amounts of nickel, copper and titanium, for example 2 per cent. of nickel or 1-5 per cent. of titanium. The alloys may be hardened by quenching from a relatively high temperature for example 1100- 1200‹C., followed by reheating at a lower temperature for example 500-600‹C.
