Abstract
532,682. Plug cocks. ZIP HEATERS, Ltd. July 24, 1939, No. 21495. Convention date, June 14. [Class 135] A spring-controlled three-way plug cock which can be set into three positions is so constructed that the cock is stable in two of the positions but has to be held by the hand in the third or intermediate position. As applied to a cock to be used at a sink for supplying hot or cold water, the plug 7 is fitted in a body 1 formed with a projection 2 fitted with a union for securing it to an ordinary cold water tap, and with a screw projection 5 for securing to a connection leading to the hot water cylinder. When the plug is set as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 cold water can flow to the plug outlet 6, and two coiled springs 13, 14, connected eccentrically to pins 13f, 14f, on the plug 7 and to pins 13c, 14c on the body of the cock hold the cock in position, and flat portions of the springs engage flat surfaces 7g, 7h on the plug 7 and act as stops so as to hold the plug stable. When the plug is rotated clockwise by a handle, which moves over an indicator plate, the cock reaches its dead centre position after a rotation of about 30 degrees, and then it reaches the position in which water can flow into the boiler. In this position the springs tend to rotate the plug further to the position in which water can flow from the hot water cylinder, and when the plug is fully open the springs engage bevelled edges 7i, 7j which act as stops and hold the plug in stable position.
