532,249. Valve circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., SHANNON, D. S. B. and CHATTERJEA, P. K. July 18, 1939, No. 20871. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (v)] Gain control for a valve comprising a cathode K, control grid CG, accelerating electrode SG, deflecting electrode D, secondary emitting electrode AK and collecting electrode A, is effected by varying the potential of the deflecting electrodes D with respect to the other electrodes. As shown, this is effected by a variable tap on a potentiometer R1. The variable potential may be that due to normally obtained A.V.C. voltages. The deflector D may serve as the oscillator electrode when the valve is used as a mixer valve.
