[ Class 108 (i)] A roof structure for motor cars comprises two or more slidable roof sections and a back section or panel. The sections are independently slidable and may all be slid into a rear compartment of the body. A rear roof section 19 is slidable by runners 24 on longitudinal rails 11 and a forward roof section 18 is slidable within the section 19 by runners 22 arranged to run on a rail 21 forming part of the section 19 and by forward runners 23 which run on the rails 11. The section 18 can thus be slid rearwardly into the section 19 or this section may be slid forwardly over the section 18. A back panel 20 can slide by runners 30 on the rails 11 and lower extensions 11b thereof into a compartment 38 in the boot 10. When this has been done and the section 18 has been slid into the section 19 until the forward runners 23, 24 reach a gap 35, Fig. 8, in the flange 14 of the rails 11, the front edges of these sections are lifted to enable them to be run on the rear runners 24 into a branch 11a of the rails disposed in the compartment 38. A gap provided in the flange 14 at the bead between the rails 11 and the branch 11a permits the passage of the runners 30 into the extension 11b but the engagement of studs 28 on the spindle of the rear runners 24 with flanges 16 off the rail guide these runners into the extensions 11a. A drip channel 12 for rain water is provided. The sections 18, 19 may each be provided with a device for locking them in position comprising a pair of bolts 32 connected to a central rotatable operating disc and adapted to enter holes in the rails 11.
