Abstract

530,457. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. (Tokyo Electric Co.) June 23, 1939, No. 18379. [Class 38 (ii)] A high reactance transformer comprising a primary 3 and secondary 4 is provided with an auxiliary winding in two opposed parts 5, 6 on opposite sides of the magnetic shunt 2 and connected in closed circuit with a condenser 7 for power factor correction. The parts 5, 6 may have equal turn numbers so as to provide in the condenser circuit a resultant voltage proportional to the leakage flux. Alternatively unequal turn numbers may be employed so as to provide additional voltage in the condenser circuit to give compensation for the magnetizing current in the primary. Some of the primary turns may be transferred to the secondary side of the shunt 2, and associated with a regulating switch whereby the proportion of primary turns on opposite sides of the shunt may be varied to vary the leakage reactance.
