529,576. Metal-vapour lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., BOWTELL, J. N., and JENKINS, H. G. Feb. 20, 1939, No. 5603. [Class 39 (i)] [Also in Group XI] A low pressure mercury vapour lamp in which red light is excited from appropriate luminescent materials, a suitable filter thereafter transmitting the red only, is used to replace the neon lamp in arrangements for giving changing colour effects by varying the impedance in the circuits supplying the units, e.g. blue, green and red sources. Previously the blue and green alone have been low pressure mercury vapour lamps. The luminescent materials may be cadmium borate or zinc beryllium silicate or the two together.
