Abstract
529,433. Electron-multipliers. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. May 31, 1939, No. 16077. Convention date, June 3, 1938. [Class 39 (i)] In electron multipliers of the type comprising a cathode and a series of secondary emission electrodes arranged in a row in the longitudinal direction of the tube, and in which the electron paths are determined by a succession of electrostatic fields and a transverse magnetic field, the lines of force of the magnetic field are curved in a transverse direction so as to produce a component perpendicular to the plane of the electrodes for the purpose of suppressing dispersion of the electrons. As shown in the drawing, the tube 4, with the electrodes 6, 7, is disposed between the pole pieces 2 of an electromagnetic so that the lines of magnetic force 9 passing transversely through the tube are curved. Alternatively the pole pieces may be suitably shaped.
