Abstract

603,939. Cathode-ray tubes. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. Nov. 6, 1945, No. 29544. Convention date, July 3, 1940. [Class 39 (i)] Narrow, sharply-defined cathode-ray beams are produced by mounting the emissive surface of the cathode 1 at the mouth of a surrounding magnetic body 5 which is magnetized in the direction of the beam so as to produce a magnetically neutral point in the neighbourhood of the cathode. The tube 5 may be a permanent magnet or polarized by an external coil. Preferably,'the surface of the cathode is concave and conforms with a control electrode so as to produce a converging electric field. The body 5 may also be biassed negatively relatively to the cathode. The subject-matter of this Specification is identical with that of Specification 554,828.
