Abstract

478,410. Cathode-ray tubes. ZEISS IKON AKT.-GES. May 25, 1937, No. 14540. Convention date, May 28, 1936. [Class 39 (i)] A cathode-ray tube is provided with electrical lenses for concentrating the beam and with permanent magnets arranged within the tube which co-operate to form a magnetic lens. The permanent magnets are preferably constituted by the electrodes serving as the electric lens, these being in the form of annular members of ferromagnetic material, such as steel or Heusler alloys. The electrodes may be arranged and magnetized as shown in Fig. 2, and the anode 3 may also be magnetized; alternatively, the electrode 4 may be cylindrical and in a further modification the electrode 3 may also surround the Wehnelt cylinder 2, as shown in Fig. 3, the potential surfaces of the magnetic lens being rendered approximately spherical. Further magnetic electrodes may be provided and the whole tube may be surrounded by a protective iron casing.
