Abstract
468,179. Electron multipliers. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Nov. 5, 1936, No. 30166. Convention date, Nov. 5, 1935. [Class 39 (i)] The oscillatory circuit of an electron-oscillatory device having oppos ed secondary - emissior electrodes is constituted by the envelope, which has projecting portion: opposed surfaces of which serve as the secondary electrodes. In one form as shown, the envelope D is a copper sphere polished internally, anc carries projections T T<1> the end C, C<1> of which emit secondary electrons. A ring-shaped collector anode A is biassed positively, the lead being taken out through a potential node at F. The sphere D is earthed along the potential node-line. Magnetic polepieces N, S which may belong to permanent or electromagnets are arranged inside the tubes T, T<1>. The envelope may be cylindrical and a solenoid magnet coil may be used. In a modification the magnet is dispensed with and a grid anode used, biassed guard-rings being arranged about the surfaces C, C<1>, or a single wire may be arranged between spherically concave surfaces C, C<1>. The output is taken from a transformer TR, or from Lecher wires coupled at P<1>, P<1>, or between a point P and earth, or from a suitable point on the anode lead through a byepass condenser.
