Abstract
527,433. Thermionic valves. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and BANKS, G. B. April 1, 1939, No. 10259. [Classes 39 (i) and 40(v)] A thermo-couple is provided in the envelope of thermionic valves so as to be heated during the operation of the valve, and the current so generated is utilized to operate a variable reactance for the purpose of compensating varying inter-electrode capacity of the valve. As shown, the thermo-couple consists of a wire 1 of the same material as the anode and welded thereto, twisted round a wire 2 of different material having a lead 3 through the footstep of the valve. The current generated is passed through a coil rotatably mounted in the field of a permanent magnet and carrying a spindle with condenser blades movable between fixed blades. The thermocouple may be conductively connected to any other of the electrodes that become heated during the operation of the valve, or may be mounted in the neighbourhood thereof, the wire 1 in this case having a separate lead.
