Abstract
525,425. Short-wave therapy. BURCH, C. R., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Feb. 20, 1939, No. 5662. [Class 81 (ii)] A high-frequency therapy applicator comprises a guard electrode and an applicator electrode insulated from each other and secured together in close and co-extensive relation and a small high-frequency current measuring device connected in series between the electrodes, so that the dosage may be more readily controlled. As shown a guard electrode 2 is spaced about 3 mm. from the other electrode 1 by a insulator 7 and is provided with a holder 9 to receive a flash-lamp bulb 10, contact being made to electrode 1 by screw 4. The high-frequency current is applied by means of a terminal 3 secured to the guard electrode and may be mounted in a bracket to permit adjustment and continuous rotation, if desired. In a modification the guard electrode is provided with an extension which peripherally surrounds the other electrode forming a Kelvin type heart-shaped guard ring, which'may have a number of perforations into each of which headed stud members protrude to form the other electrode. An additional electric lamp supplied from an independent source such as a low voltage low frequency transformer may be used as a standard of brightness for comparison purposes.
