756,567. Discharge lamps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 8, 1954 [Oct. 8, 1953], No. 27712/53. Class 39 (1). A flash discharge lamp has a helical envelope 1 supported by metal posts 3 extending from the base 2, one of the posts constituting an electrode of a capacitor 3, 5, 6 electrically in series in a starting circuit including a starting electrode 4 on the exterior surface of the envelope 1. The capacitor comprises a glass or ceramic tube on which is located a metal sleeve 6, e.g. a metal foil or metal paint, to which the ends of the starting electrode 4 are connected. The starting electrode 4 may pass over the sleeve 6 or separate loops of conductor 7 embrace the sleeve 6 and the envelope 1 to support the envelope. An incandescent lamp may be housed within the convolutions of the envelope 1. A glass cover 10 is provided. The envelope 1 may be filled with xenon at several cms. pressure and the electrodes are connected to terminals 9. The Provisional Specification refers to Specification 648,418.
