Abstract

1533345 Supply circuits for discharge lamps GENERAL ELECTRIC CO Ltd 12 May 1977 [14 May 1976] 19987/76 Heading H2H [Also in Division H1] The supply circuit for a high pressure sodium discharge lamp includes a rectifier 24, resistor 25 and capacitor 26 connected in series across the supply terminals 22, 23 in parallel with the lamp and a lead 27 is taken from between the rectifier 24 and the resistor 25 to connect, via conductors 14, 17 and 18, with an electrically conducting, light transmissive film 16 on the inside of the outer envelope 2 so as to maintain it at a positive potential with respect to the discharge during normal operation. By this arrangement any photoelectrons emitted by any of the metal support or supply structure within the outer envelope are prevented from impinging on the inner envelope and causing Na ions to penetrate to the outside of the envelope.
