Abstract

PURPOSE:To get rid of the condition that lights are completely out, by providing a discharge tube and a D.C. circuit between the discharge gap and a filament in an external tube and radiating the filament through the discharge gap until the discharge tube starts again. CONSTITUTION:In an external tube 1 such as a metal halide lamp, a high pressure discharge tube 8, acting as a radiating tube is provided. A discharge gap 13 is equipped on the base 2 side and a filament 17 is provided on the opposite side so that light emission may not be prevented. The discharge gap 13 and the filament are connected in series; parallelly connected between electrodes 10, 11 for the discharge lamp 8; and connected to the power source through a stabilizer. When the discharge lamp 8 goes off from its steady lighting condition the discharge gap 13 immediately starts to emit the light by discharging and light of the filament 17. Accordingly, the illumination can be kept till the discharge tube restarts, without putting discharge light out of operation.
