Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a high voltage discharge lamp from fully turning off and make a lihgting device compact by providing a high voltage discharge tube in an outer tube provided, connecting a discharge gap and the high voltage discharge tube in parallel, and lighting them at a specific frequency. CONSTITUTION:A high voltage discharge tube 4, W filament 7, and discharge gap 8 are provided in an outer tube 1. One electrode 5 of the dicharge tube 4 is connected to a support lead 11 and the other electrode 6 to the lead 14 from a lighting device 2 through a lead 12, respectively. The electrode 9 of the discharge gap 8 is connected to the lead 14 through the W filament 7 and an electrode 10 to a lead 44. The discharge gap 8 connected in series to the filament 7 is connected to the discharge tube 4 in parallel and lights by a high frequency lighting device of 1- 100KHz. This can normally a high voltage discharge tube with good efficiency. Even when the discharge tube turns off, a discharge lamp can be prevented from fully turning off.
