Abstract

713,077. Dielectric heating. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. April 8, 1952 [April 23, 1951], No. 9418/51. Class 39 (3) High frequency dielectric heating apparatus comprises two electrodes 10 and 11 ... 18 between which the field is to be applied, one at least of the electrodes being divided into a multiplicity of mutually insulated areas 11 ... 18, and means, e.g. a switch 20, 21, being provided for feeding the areas selectively and in succession with high frequency electric current. When very high frequencies, e.g. 10 megacycles, are employed, a capacitance type switch may replace the switch 20, 21. The use of a plurality of electrode strips 11 ... 18 decreases the capacitance of the apparatus at any instant in use, and hence increases the voltage and so shortens the heating period disproportionately. The Provisional Specification describes also the use of induction coils for supplying current to the strips 11 ... 18, and states that one electrode may be a sheet and the other a movable or stationary roller.
