Abstract
718,311. Severing by burning. MULLER, A. May 16, 1952, No. 12509/52. Class 31 (I). Apparatus for cutting-out sheet material, which may be in superposed layers, comprises a pair of electrodes arranged one above the material and the other below the material, means for producing an electrical flash-over between the electrodes, and means for moving at least one of the electrodes relatively to the material, whereby the material is divided by a continuous cut along the line of relative movement. The material may be held stationary on a cutting-out table, the surface of which is electrically conductive and serves as a fixed electrode, while the other electrode is movable in a plane parallel to the surface of the table. The material may be cut by a high tension spark, a high-frequency spark discharge, or an arc. Auxiliary electric and magnetic fields may be provided for producing a concentric and rectilinear spark path.
