Abstract
524,198. Crucible furnaces; casting machines. MARTIN, K. Jan. 23, 1939, No. 23406. Divided out of 524,124, [Group XXII] [Class 51 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] In a crucible furnace for melting metal for pressure casting a heatintercepting screen 13 is provided for cutting off radiation from the heating- elements and furnace lining when the metal in the crucible 1 has attained a predetermined temperature. The outer part of the screen consists of heatinsula ting material while the inner part 15 is of metal which absorbs heat from the crucible, to reduce the temperature o f the molten metal. The screen is moved into and out 'of operative position by hand, or by a ram which may be controlled by the thermostat 5. Pressure gas is supplied to the crucible by the pipe 2 and is distributed over the surface of the metal by a screen 6.
