Abstract

<PICT:1037506/C6-C7/1> Aluminium or aluminium alloy granules for the production of sintered hot melted products are made by projecting particles of molten aluminium through a heated zone which keeps the particles molten and modifies their shape and finally cooling the particles. As shown in Fig. 1 molten aluminium fed from pot 10 is centrifugally cast from a perforated pot 22 rotating at such a speed to project the particles 8-12 feet in a fall of 1 1/2 feet. A ring of burners 42 surround the pot and maintain a burning flame zone 48 (Fig. 3 not shown). Air is circulated in the casting unit via inlet 19 and outlet 27 and a water mist 32 may be sprayed on to the molten particles which are then collected at 25 or in a pool of water. The particles are screened to +200 mesh particles which are stored in tin 50 prior to preheating to 450 DEG -1200 DEG F. and rolling into strip. The particles of aluminium are individually covered with a layer of oxide.
