Abstract
1307553 Granulating metals OXYMET AG 6 June 1970 27466/70 Heading C7X In production of metallic powder or granules, metal is melted and/or maintained in the molten state within a furnace by means of a hot gas under pressure, which gas further serves to expel the molten metal from a nozzle leading from the furnace to produce the powder or granules. In one embodiment, Fig. 2 pressurized fuel gas 3 is used to force liquid metal 2 through pipe 4 into nozzle 5, at whose outlet the metal 2 joins gases 3 at the moment of their expansion, thereby forming granules of metal. Beyond the nozzle, the apparatus may be provided with a separating chamber, a gas filter, and gas heating means, whereby the gas may be continually recycled. The gas may be oxidising, inert or reducing, and cold gas may be introduced to keep the molten metal below its vapourization temperature.
