Abstract

1286529 Shaft furnaces COLUMBIA GAS SYSTEM SERVICE CORP 3 Nov 1969 [1 April 1969] 53703/69 Heading F4B A furnace for melting fusible materials includes a burner assembly 27 for impinging a jet of hot gas on the charge, the velocity and temperature of the jet being sufficient to produce localized melting of the charge and only a preheating of the remaining portion of the charge at the end of the shaft. The molten products formed in the furnace flow into a taphole 24 immediately and continually after melting, thus preventing the formation of a pool of molten material.
