Abstract

1433280 Heating steel slabs AUGUST THYSSEN-HUTTE AG 13 Nov 1974 [20 Dec 1973] 49189/74 Heading C7D Steel slabs are heated to rolling temperature by heating in a first pusher-type furnace to a temperature below the scale-melting temperature, e.g. to 1340‹C, and transferring to a second pusher-type furnace where the slabs are heated to a temperature causing scale-melting, e.g. 1400‹C. The first furnace has upper and lower burners, and the second furnace upper burners only, the fluid slag formed in the second furnace by melting the scale being removed by auxilliary burners and slag runners. The slabs may be of Si-steel and may be pre-rolled between the two furnaces.
