859,901. Continuous metal-heating furnaces: skid rails. HUTTENWERK OBERHAUSEN A.G. March 6, 1959 [March 8, 1958], No. 7780/59. Class 51 (2). In a continuous billet heating furnace having an upper heating chamber with burner blocks 19, 20 and lower heating chambers 2 with burner blocks 9, water-cooled skid-rails 10a are disposed over the lower heating chambers 2 and uncooled rails 10b over the solid hearth sections. The rails 10a are supported by a watercooled transverse tube 5 with a central water-cooled pillar 6, the tube and pillar being covered with insulation 4. Each rail 10a comprises a water-cooled tube 3 surmounted by saddle-shaped members 110a having ribs 11 forming the actual support surface for the billets and formed with recesses loosely engaging projecting plates 12 on the tube 3. Refractory tiles 13 seat in recesses on the saddle members and T-shaped brackets 15 on the underside of the tube carry refractory blocks 16.
