Abstract
736,624. Radiant heat furnaces. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. April 14, 1953 [April 26, 1952], No. 10111/53. Classes 51 (1) and 51 (2). [Also in Group XXII] A gas-fired furnace comprises a tunnel 10 of refractory material, rails 30, a row of radiant heat gas burners 16 located in the floor beneath the rails and aligned between them, and a wheeled, work-supporting carriage 32. Premixed gas and air is fed from a source 17 through pipes 50 each of which carries at its upper end a ceramic burner tip 52 having circumferentially spaced slots extending lengthwise. The arcuate refractory roof 12 reflects heat to the upper side of the work 36. Doors 18 movable by air cylinders 20 and a pulley system are fitted at the ends of the tunnel. The temperature of the radiant heat source may be of the order of 400-1600‹ F.
