1,048,980. Multiple hearth furnaces. KLÍCKNER-HUMBOLDT-DEUTZ A.G. Nov. 20, 1963 [Dec. 18, 1962], No. 45782/63. Heading F4B. A multiple hearth furnace for burning carbonaceous clay comprises hearths 3-11 formed with alternate peripheral and central charge passages 12 and 13 respectively, burners 17-23 arranged uniformly over the upper hearths, and valve-controlled waste-gas offtakes 28-31 leading the gases from hearths 3-6 to a manifold 34. Air, may be supplied through the burners and/or through the central shaft 14 and robble arms 15. Hearths 10 and 11 have no burners and are used as cooling hearths.
