Class 51 (2) In a heat treatment furnace of the bell type, the refractory base 10 is formed with a plurality of heating flues 11 and a sealing trough 13 containing sand or Wood's metal, and a work supporting hearth 16 forms the roof of the flues 11 and has a depending flange 17 entering the sealing trough. The hearth 16 is a massive metal plate which may be provided with strengthening fins, and the trough 13 may be lined with a metal channel 15.
