Abstract

1,031,053. Furnace linings. CARBORUNDUM CO. Ltd. April 23, 1964 [April 23, 1963], No. 16023/63. Heading F4B. A blast furnace has a refractory lining, restricted to the Bosh area, of silicon carbide or fusion-cast ßlumina, which incorporates cooling means for said lining. The cooling for the lining is achieved by way of metal sheets, Fig. 1 (not shown), disposed in some or all of the horizontal joints of the lining brickwork and continuous with the steel outer casing of the furnace. To further assist cooling, alternate courses of brickwork may be of high and low thermal conductivity, Fig. 2 (not shown).
