Abstract

A refractory brick or block for lining a metal melting furnace comprises a main body 1 with the working face lined by strips 3 of refractory material each formed with a groove engaging a corresponding dove-tailed tongue 2 on the body, all joints being sealed with a plumbago/ silicon carbide cement. The body may be made of fireclay, sillimanite, kyanite, fused alumina or bauxite, and the strip of fine grained carbon or graphite.
