Abstract

1,172,932. Cupola furnaces. PENZENSKY KOMPRESSORNY ZAVOD. 6 Feb., 1967 [6 Feb., 1966], No. 5606/67. Heading F4B. [Also in Division H5] In a cupola furnace having a cylindrical combustion chamber 7 sloping downwardly towards the hearth 5 and supplied with a gas/air mixture by a tuyere 8, a water-cooled copper electrode 9 of torus shape and a tungsten or graphite electrode 10 produce a plasma flame directed on to the hearth. The cupola shaft is formed with water-cooled internal shoulders and the hearth slopes downwardly away from a taphole leading to a forehearth. The combustion chamber 7 may be formed of highly refractory material or may be water cooled.
