Abstract

1354049 Regenerative hot-blast stoves HOOGOVENS IJMUIDEN BV 6 Sept 1972 [7 Sept 1971] 41294/72 Heading F4K In an apparatus such as a hot blast stove, a layer 14 of refractory masonry forming part of a wall bounding a hot gas space and pierced by a hot gas duct 4, has a ring 6 of bricks 11 surrounding the gas duct at its entry into the space, there being a joint 9 provided which permits relative sliding between the layer 14 (including the ring 6) and outwardly adjacent refractory masonry 15 of the wall. As shown, relative sliding is also permitted (by a joint 10) between the layer 15 and a further layer 8 of the wall, and the layer 15 includes a ring 7 of bricks 12 around the gas duet 4. Said duct includes a ring of refractory bricks 13 which does not extend to the end 3 of the duct thereby allowing room for expansion of these bricks. The layer 8 is an insulating layer (e.g. of fireclay bricks) in contact with the steel outer jacket 1, 2 of the structure. Adjacent bricks in the rings 6, 7 have interlocking means at their abutting surfaces (see Figs. 3 and 4).
