Abstract

1392011 Furnace linings SPECIAL METALS CORP 16 Jan 1973 [17 Jan 1972] 2199/73 Heading F4B A circular vessel for molten metal or the like has a wall lining formed from arcuate refractory bricks, the abutting faces of adjacent bricks being at an acute angle to the radius of the vessel so that, on heating, the abutting faces of the bricks slide over one another. The matching faces A-D at one end of each brick lie in a plane intersecting a circle 30 of less radius than the inner surface of the vessel at the point where a radial plane passing through the other inner corner C of the brick intersects the circle, Fig. 4. The effect of thermal expansion swivels each brick about a vertical axis, so that an induction heating coil surrounding the brick and embedded in rammed ceramic insulation is less liable to damage than with normal radial thermal expansion.
