Abstract
599,849. Salt bath furnaces. HOLDEN, A. DE F. May 16, 1944, No. 9383. Convention clate, May 19, 1943. [Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Groups XX and XXXV] The temperature of a furnace for the heat treatment of metal by immersion in a fused salt bath is controlled by utilising the heat rays emanating from the upper surface of the bath which may. be concentrated in a thermopile connected to the furnace control gear. In the form shown a lens 32 is adjustably mounted in a tube 33 mounted just above the bath surface and a thermopile 35 disposed at its focal point is connected to a potentiometer pyrometer having a relay for opening the main supply to the electrodes 15, 16, 17 on a predetermined temperature being reached. These electrodes are disposed in triangular arrangement in one half of the bath as shown, and the lens surface is kept clear by passing filtered air downward through tube 33.
