Abstract

510,291. Electric induction furnaces; making metal crucibles. VEREINIGTE DEUTSCHE METALLWERKE AKT.-GES. ZWEIGNIEDERLASSUNG BASSE & SELVE. July 7, 1938, No, 20091. Convention date, April 25. [Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Group XXII] In a furnace for melting metal and metal alloys which do not alloy with iron, particularly magnesium, of the kind wherein a crucible 3 merges into a channel body 4 the metal in which forms a closed secondary, the crucible and the channel body are made wholly of iron, preferably of low carbon ingot iron and the inner part of the channel body consists of a closed ring 5 of thickness at least equal to the width of the channel so as to function as an effective secondary with a solid charge. The crucible and the channel body are made separately and connected together by welded joints 8.
