521,167. Combined clutch and brake mechanism. DORMAN & CO., Ltd., W. H., and PHILLIPS, A. E. Nov. 10, 1938, No. 32706. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIV] A propeller or driven shaft 7 is braked by a spring-urged plunger 22 when the control lever is in the neutral position, but when the lever is moved to rock the forks 5 into the ahead or astern position the plunger 11 moves parallel to the shaft 7 to withdraw the brake. The plunger 11 passes through an aperture 25 in the plunger 22 and the co-operating surfaces are of V form. The member 11 is connected by an eye 11a to a pin 14 projecting from one of the studs 10, on a sleeve 6, adapted to be engaged by the fork 5 on a shaft 4. The lower end of the plunger has a facing of friction material 24.
