Abstract
501,463. Controlling aircraft. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd., and LOBELLE, M. J. O. Oct. 7, 1937, No. 27242.. [Class 4]. Upper and lower pivoted flaps disposed at the trailing marginal portion of an aircraft wing are operable together or the lower flaps are operable alone, the flaps being interconnected through a clutch device, the interengaging members of which are carried by two sleeves, one of which 16 is slidably splihed on the shaft 15 to which the lower flap is fixed and the other is carried by a sleeve 19 rotatable on the shaft and connected to the upper flap by lever-and-link mechanism. The clutch is actuated by the pilot through lever-and-link mechanism so that all the clutches which may be provided are engaged and disengaged simultaneously. In one form, the flap 14 carries an arm 31 to which is pivoted the piston-rod 32 of an hydraulic-jack 33 disposed in the wing 13. The sleeve 19 carries an arm 27 pivoted to a block 28 slidable in a groove 29 in an arm 30 mounted on the shaft 12 carrying the upper flap 11. In a modification, the upper flap may extend forwardly of the shaft 12 and may be operated through a lever linked to the arm 27.
