Abstract
540,041. Rack and pinion jacks. TAMPIER, R. J. C. Feb. 28, 1940, No. 9106/41. Divided out of 539,117. Drawings to Specification. [Class 78 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXIII] Mechanism for operating movable surfaces of aircraft comprises rack and pinion mechanism on which the surface is carried so as to be movable to and fro relative to a wing, and each movable surface is connected to the rack by controllable hinge mechanism operated by two additional rack and pinion mechanisms connected respectively to the hinge mechanism and to a control in the cockpit, the pinions of these two mechanisms being provided with inter-engaging clutch elements whereby they can be coupled together to transmit the drive from one rack to the other rack. One of these pinions has clutch elements on both sides to enable it to be coupled alternatively to the pinion of the first-mentioned rack mechanism so as to be driven by it. The description is identical with that in Specification 539,117. Specifications 496,875 and 499,503, [both in Group XXXIII], also are referred to.
