Abstract

517,895. Controlling aircraft. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd., and BROWN, A. C. Aug. 17, 1938, No. 24262. [Class 4] An aircraft wing is provided with a flap b which can be lowered bodily and turned about a transverse axis and with a spoiler e for closing at will, wholly or partially, the gap between the wing and the flap whether or not the bodily lowering and turning movements be effected concurrently. In one form, the flap is mounted on links c, d of unequal length. The spoiler is pivoted to the flap and operated through a bellcrank lever j, h and a link g which is normally in line with the link c. In a modification, the flap is mounted and controlled in the manner described in Specification 493,391. the spoiler being actuated by lever and link mechanism which normally is unaffected by movement of the flap. In a further form, the spoiler is connected by a link 22, Fig. 9, to one side of a bellows 19 and is operated by air-flow according to the position of a member 28.
