Abstract

526,028. Motor accessories. RUBBRA, A. A., and WEST, H. E. W. Feb. 25, 1939, No. 6321. [Class 4] [Also in Group XXVII] The starting motor of an aircraft is capable of being clutched to the main power unit or to an oil pump for actuating the mechanism of a variable pitch airscrew, the clutch being actuated by a solenoid which also operates the control switch of the motor. In one form an electric starting-motor 10 has a shaft 12 having a splined part 13 on which slides a sleeve formed with clutch members 14, 15. The sleeve is moved by a lever 23 to bring the member 14 into engagement with a clutch member 17 on the main motor 11, or alternatively, to bring the member 15 into engagement with another member 19 on a sleeve 18 geared to a hydraulic pump 22. The lever 23 is moved by the armature of a doublewound solenoid which also moves the starting switch of the motor 10.
