Abstract

1,002,127. Reversing gear. MERRIT & CO. (ENGINEERING) Ltd. March 5, 1962 [March 11, 1961], No. 8965/61. Headings F2C, F2D and F2L. A reversing gear comprises pinions 15, 16 rotated continuously in opposite directions on the output shaft 11 by drive pinions 13, 14, multiplate clutches 22 being mounted between the pinions 15, 16 and the output shaft for establishing forward or reverse drive by axial movement of a collar 32 along a threaded sleeve 30 splined to the output shaft. The collar 32 is operated by a hand lever 40 and pivoted arm 45 to give torque-assisted movement of the clutch pressure members 25. The lever 40 is held in the neutral position by a spring detent 51, 52, while a spring-toggle 62, 64 is effective upon movement of the lever to maintain the clutch engaging pressure. A gear-wheel pump 70 supplies lubricant to the clutches through an axial bore 75 in the shaft 11.
