Abstract

[Also in Division F2] A joystick control lever 1 for a civil engineering machine is spring-urged to an upright neutral position, and carries a magnetic member 14 which is adapted to co-operate with a surrounding magnetic member 13 in order to hold, or assist in holding, the joystick in a displaced position to which it is moved. The lever 1 is pivotally mounted on a ball 3 and carries a plate 6 which engages four spring- pressed plungers 7 which are adapted to operate pneumatic valves 10 arranged to control four separate motions of the machine in which the joystick is fitted. The magnetic member 14 is mounted on the joystick 1 so as to be adjustable axially. The magnetic attraction between the members 13, 14 in any direction is determined by the initial spacing of the members 13, 14 in that direction. When the joystick is moved backwards or forwards the respective valve 10 is depressed to cause engagement of a clutch or brake on a hoist rope drum. When the joystick is moved to left or right one of the other two valves 10 is depressed causing clutches to be engaged to drive crawler tracks either forwards or backwards.
